First-party analytics
Our own analytics records page paths, general referral information, broad device type, and coarse location data supplied by the network edge. It uses a temporary identifier in browser session storage to connect pageviews within a tab and records campaign tags when present. It sets no advertising cookies and does not collect the contents of forms.
Google Analytics
This site also loads Google Analytics 4, which is a Google service. It sets its own cookies in your browser and sends Google information about your visit, including your IP address, the pages you view, and general device and referral details. You can prevent it by using a browser or extension that blocks analytics scripts, or by using tracking-protection settings that block Google Analytics. Google describes its own handling of this data in its privacy policy.
Email updates
Email subscriptions are not open, and the site does not ask for or collect newsletter addresses. If subscriptions open, this page will explain what is stored and how to unsubscribe before accepting addresses.
Affiliate links and product images
Following an affiliate link takes you to a retailer such as Amazon, and that retailer may set its own cookies and record the visit in order to attribute a purchase. Product images shown on this site are loaded directly from the retailer, which means the retailer can see your IP address and browser details when an image loads, whether or not you click anything. Each product recommendation carries its own disclosure directly above it.
When analytics is available, an affiliate click event records the product identifier and its position on the page. It does not include form contents or search terms.
Service providers
Hosting and analytics providers process limited data needed to operate the site. We retain operational data only as long as it remains useful and lawful. We do not sell personal information.
Your choices
You may browse without subscribing. You may block analytics scripts in your browser. Email subscriptions are not currently offered. Our contact page explains the current status of the public editorial channel.
